Can't find a suitable course?

The Child Protection in Sport & Leisure module is available through BASI as an online course. This means it can be done in your own time and in the comfort of your own home.

The cost of this online module is only £25 but once we register you with the learning provider (Educare), you will have access to EduCare’s comprehensive e-learning service for the sports sector containing a broad range of a further 17 online safeguarding and duty of care courses.

These include the following:
1.     Mental Wellbeing in Sport and Physical Activity
2. Preventing Bullying in Sport
3. Concussion Awareness
4.     Equality and Diversity in Sport
5.     Safeguarding Adults
6.     An Introduction to Safety in Clubs
7.     Introduction to Child Sexual Exploitation
8.     First Aid Essentials*

Completion of 3 of the courses listed above can be used to count as 1 BASI CPD credit (equivalent to 1 day CPD). These courses have been selected as the most relevant for the purposes of BASI CPD. All courses are accessible following your purchase of the Child Protection course but members who wish to have their CPD updated just need to provide evidence of completion (i.e. copies of the certificates) and pay an external CPD fee (£20). The other courses are provided to you free of charge and may be useful for your own personal development or to assist you in your role as an instructor or part of a club.

You must be logged in to BASI to book the Child Protection in Sport & Leisure module.

*First Aid Essentials can ONLY be used as a module for CPD and will NOT count as First Aid. First Aid must be a course with a duration of a minimum of 12 hours/2 days.

A total of 35 hours minimum of teaching/snowsport school experience is part of the Level 1 Instructor Qualification. These hours need to be completed after attending the Level 1 Instructor Course, any hours completed before attending this course will not be accepted, as we perceive the information you gain from the Level 1 Course will enhance your understanding of BASI philosophies.

Teaching/Snowsport School experience may include any of the following:

  • Understanding how bookings are taken and how people are selected into different standards
  • Shadowing experienced Instructors delivering lessons
  • Hours completed at slopes using Maxxtracks technology, such as Skiplex or Chel-ski**
  • Understanding how customer satisfaction is assessed and how dissatisfied customers are dealt with
  • Understanding how the Customer satisfaction procedures improve Instructor and administrative practices
  • Taking part in and understanding in house staff training for Instructors
  • Understanding how Snowsports Schools maintain Safety standards and maintain their currency of good practise
  • Understanding the Risk Assessment process that Snowsport Schools and Instructors take
  • Understanding Accident and First Aid procedures including accident reporting

Students should provide a breakdown in writing of what they have covered during their Snowsport School experience, this should be on headed Snowsport School paper and be signed by the Snowsport School supervisor.

** Due to the nature of these slopes the instructor should always be mindful of how their lesson could be given on a dry slope or indoor snow slope where there are more slope users and a change of terrain (angle and underfoot conditions). Clients should be given instruction in accordance with the FIS code, particularly with regards to safety.

Members who wish to receive a licence to instruct must provide the BASI Office with a copy of a current first aid certificate.

Please note: It is each member’s responsibility to ensure that they maintain a valid first aid certificate that is suitable for the country and snowsports school or slope where they work but at the very least meets BASI’s requirements.

In order to achieve your first level of qualification with BASI, a copy of a first aid certificate needs to be provided to the BASI Office.

BASI's requirements for first aid are as follows

  • A minimum of 12 hours / 2 days duration

Members must update their first aid by the expiry date on their current first aid certificate and in any event not more than 3 years after their date of attendance on their last first aid course. An updated version of our First Aid Policy can be found here.

This ensures all Members have received current, relevant first aid training enabling a positive and confident approach to any casualty. This solid grounding in first aid compliments their qualifications both on and off the mountain.
