Chamonix

Some of the world’s steepest, and most challenging skiing, breath taking scenery, and a rocking nightlife make this one of the best (expert) ski resorts in the world.

Chamonix is not convenient, nor conventional, but it has steep, high, long, tough runs and is perfect for the adventurous and would be expert skier.

Unless you are based next to one of the half dozen separate mountains and stick to it, you will have to drive/bus each day, as the ski areas are spread along a valley almost 10 miles long. Only two of the areas are interconnected. In the shadow of Mont Blanc, it is the most famous ski town in France, and is an experience hard to beat!

Les Saisies

Les Saisies is primarily a cross country ski resort located in the Savoie region of France. It is 50 minutes from Albertville, which hosted the 1992 Winter Olympics. For those games, Les Saisies hosted the biathlon and cross-country skiing events.

Les Saisies is quite simply a fabulous cross-country ski resort.  It is one of the highest in the alps, situated between 1650-1720m altitude.  It is therefore one of the most snow-sure Nordic resorts and has a season that often extends from the end of November through to the end of April.

With 120km of tracks cut for both Classic and Skating technique and with technical difficulties ranging from beginner to expert, Les Saisies has something for all ability levels.

Winding between open alpine meadows and forest tracks within a regional nature reserve in France it has gained the reputation as a “little Sweden”.  On good weather days the open skies offer majestic views south to the Ecrins and east to the Mont Blanc Massif.

In the words of Olympic Champion Raphaël Poirée:

“Cross country skiing at Les Saisies is better than in Norway!  At Les Saisies there is more snow, more sunshine, and more light as well as being less cold than in Scandinavia.  The domain is situated at altitude with an unbeatable view on the mountain chain of Mont Blanc.  Here skiers can truly find happiness. ”
