Adaptive Certifications

These certifications have been designed to support your existing snowsports qualification with the skills and knowledge to safely teach learners with Additional Needs or Visual Impairments within a snowsports environment.

They are ideal for members interested in the Adaptive discipline but who are unsure about committing to a full course.

If you already hold an Adaptive qualification they provide a great way to elevate and refresh your existing knowledge.

The certifcations comprise of two modules each, which must be completed in order:
1. ONLINE, four-hour, Trainer-led course (not assessed)
2. ON-SNOW, one-day, Trainer-led (assessed)

Both modules must be completed in order to be awarded the Adaptive Certification

Each module counts as 1 BASI CPD credit to refresh your qualification and can also be used to top-up shadowing hours (each course attendance counts for 10 hours).

NB the certifitaions are not Adaptive qualifications and will not show on your licence, however, a certificate will be available for you to download from your member's area once both modules have been successfully completed.

Additional Needs in Snowsports

Our Additional Needs in Snowsports course is designed to introduce you to the adaptations needed and knowledge required to safely teach learners with additional needs.

Our online course has been designed to be discipline-neutral meaning you will learn alongside members from all disciplines. Over the four hours of the course you will cover the theory aspect of teaching learners with Additional Needs (such as teaching adaptations, safety considerations, assistive devices etc.), as well as some open discussion drawing on personal experience.

The on-snow module allows you to put into practice what you have learned in the online course, as well as learning some new hands-on and teaching skills.

Our trainers will develop your understanding of commonly encountered additional needs, give you the skills required to evaluate the needs of your learner and show you how to adapt your delivery to the ever evolving needs of your learner.

Further information on the on-snow assessment criteria can be found in the 'Assessment Criteria' tab.

Visual Impairment in Snowsports

Our Visual Impairment in Snowsports course is designed to introduce you to the adaptations needed and knowledge required to safely teach learners with visual impairments.

The online course has been designed to be discipline-neutral meaning you will learn alongside members from all disciplines. Our trainers will develop your understanding of commonly encountered visual impairments, give you the skills required to evaluate the needs of your learner and show you how your guiding position can impact on the success of your delivery.

The on-snow module will put this theory into practice and you will have the opportunity to try out the techniques learnt in the online course before delivering an assessed teaching and guiding session.
Please only book the on-snow course if you have attended the online module.

The on-snow course is open to members from all disciplines, but should be attended on Alpine or Telemark skis, or a snowboard. The course cannot be attended on cross country equipment.

The course will be delivered by an Adaptive Ski or Adaptive Snowboard Trainer, and you may end up learning alongside members from other disciplines, using different equipment to you.

We believe that it is possible for members from all disciplines to learn how to make adaptations, and to learn the necessary skills to teach a visually impaired learner, alongside each other

Further information on the on-snow assessment criteria can be found in the 'Assessment Criteria' tab.
