To all BASI Members

We’re aware of an EC-OE document circulating on social media in relation to Mr Simon Butler and the progression of the case against him and 6 others by the French authorities.

The case against Mr Butler sits with the Ministry of Youth and Sport which is within the French government. Our understanding is that the verdict is likely in Spring 2020.

BASI is not involved in this legal case and it would be inappropriate to comment on the case itself.  We also don’t want to comment on the EC-OE paper before the legal case is decided.

We do however want to ensure Members are aware that, ahead of the official legal verdict, there is no change to the licensing rules.  We have rechecked this in the last 48 hours to ensure our advice is correct. The relevant page link is below:

We are monitoring the situation closely and as soon as there is any official announcement will share more. If the licensing rules do change in the future and more opportunities become available for members, we'll make sure you know about it.
