Course Information: Snowboard Freestyle Development Coach L1

Snowboard Freestyle Development Course Level 1

This first level course is run as a parallel to the alpine ski coach qualification.?This 3 day course aims to introduce candidates to the philosophies and skills to be an effective Coach whilst developing riding over longer periods of time (Coaching will normally take place through snowboard clubs and in house Instructor Training Program). ?It is ideal for Coaches, parents of young performers active in snowboard clubs, and Instructors with an interest in performance snowboarding. The Development Coach Level 1 Certificate is a standalone qualification, and leads candidates in to the Development Coach Level 2.

Pre-requisite
Riding ability to cleanly link carved turns on blue terrain, ride switch linking turns, perform good ollies, 180s all ways on the piste, straight air a small kicker (4-7m) and 50/50 a box.

Valid (12 hour) first aid certificate

During this active 3 day training/assessment course candidates will improve their knowledge of; performance snowboarding; develop their personal riding (flat-land tricks, jibs and jumping skills and drills); and learn how to deliver a "coaching" session in the learner centred approach.

The principal outcomes from this course are
How to design & deliver a well structured coaching session (Introduction, Warm Up, Activation Period, Cool Down, and Roundup), emphasizing the subtle but important difference between teaching and coaching
Introduce people to performance snowboarding
Methods of rider analysis, analyze and develop performance riding TTPPEE
Ethics in sport
Introduction to the prioritization of skills and drills pertaining to age and ability of a young athlete. Effectively develop performance skills through these drills.
Prepare people for snowboard competitions.
