| ALPINE DEVELOPMENT COACH LEVEL 1 COURSE INFORMATION (Assistant Club Coach) This is a 3 day course designed to give an introduction to the philosophies and skills needed to be an effective race coach. It is specifically aimed at coaching children with the focus on long term athlete development (LTAD). It is ideal for former athletes, parents of young performers, those with an interest in ski race coaching or instructors wishing to discover a different way of teaching. The course is competency based and involves several off-snow planning activities as well as on snow coaching skills. The Development Coach Level 1 and Level 2 courses run as a seven day package, is designed to meet the needs of those candidates working towards their Level 3 ISIA Alpine award. The Alpine Level 2 Instructor qualification is a pre-requisite for this package. Prerequisites You should be able to carve cleanly linked turns on blue piste. Be an associate member of BASI Please Note: As of the end of September 2010, members working towards their ISIA and booking the Alpine Development Coach Level 1 & 2 Courses together, must complete the required 20 hours before attending the Alpine Development Coach Level 1 Course. Modules required for Qualification Safeguarding Children module (available online on this website) Valid (12 hour) First Aid Certificate Forward a copy of your disclosure certificate, if you have not already done so. If required click here for more information on how to apply for a basic disclosure Please Note: After completion of the above modules, it is necessary to become a full member of BASI, in order to gain the Alpine Coach Level 1 Qualification. There is no requirement for any coaching hours to gain this qualification. Course Content The course covers the basic principles for snowsport coaching so that parents, althetes and aspiring coaches can gain a good grounding in these principles. There is a continuous assessment element which is based around your own performance. |
