Conversion & Assessment policy for ASSI/ASSBI qualifications to gain the BASI Level 1

With the aim of catering for the modern market place for instructional education for UK Snowsports, BASI has established the BASI Level 1 qualification, which is designed to be an achievable entry level qualification for Instructing. The BASI Level 1 Instructor qualification is for those Instructors who wish to teach on artificial slopes within the UK. The vision is to create one single qualification at the start of the education system to minimise confusion within the industry and to provide a clear simple pathway for aspirant Instructors. The BASI Level 1 Instructor standards are designed so that ASSI/ASSBI qualified Instructors can enter directly into the BASI system at BASI Level 1 by doing a one day conversion course. Once in the system the BASI Level 1 Instructor can and then progress to BASI Advanced UK Instructor and/or attend the BASI Level 2 on an open mountain course. 

Club Instructors must attend the BASI Level 1 five day course. Existing ASSI/ASSBI will not be assessed on the conversion day for the BASI Level 1 qualification.

Refreshers

Existing ASSI/ASSBI holders may attend BASI refreshers. Due to TAX implications anybody attending a BASI refresher must join BASI as a member. Please note attending a conversion will act as a refresher.

NB: Important Notice:  This conversion course will only be possible for existing ASSI/ASSBI until October 2009.  After this date you will be required to sit the entire BASI Level 1 Course to enter the BASI system.  One day Conversion Courses only apply to those who qualified before the 31st Jul 07.  Full disclosure Check will have to be submitted through Disclosure Scotland.  Also a copy of a valid First Aid certificate will have to be submitted so that a licence can be issued.

PLEASE NOTE: A Basic Criminal Record Disclosure, the completion of the Safeguarding Children Module and a valid First Aid certificated 12-hour course will be required before certification will be awarded for any of the BASI qualifications.
