The overall goal of the British Association of Snowsport Instructors is to provide a snowboard training and qualification system that will assist members to find employment world-wide.

The BASI Snowboarding discipline has seen huge progress over the last few years in respect of the
development of specific training courses for instructors.

The following information will help students to quantify the value of attending BASI snowboarding courses and it will help to see the future developments and strategy that BASI is planning to achieve. There has never been a better time for any snowboard enthusiast to train for a career in snowboard teaching.

Following the success of the Alpine discipline in achieving recognition for ski instructor qualifications in Europe, BASI has now overcome the Eurogroup resistance to a standalone Snowboard Qualification Snowboarding discipline.

BASI Snowboard Teachers and the ISTD Qualification

Holders of the BASI Snowboard Teacher qualification who are high level performers will have the opportunity to upgrade their qualification to the Multidiscipline ISTD Qualification and may be considered on a case by case basis for Right of Establishment as a Snowsport Teacher in France.

Verification of their high level performance will normally be based on FIS points from Boarder Cross competition. There will be further modules to complete beyond the Snowboard Teacher qualification to satisfy competency standards for Right of Establishment including a significant standard in teaching a second discipline. To gain a FIS licence to take part in Boarder Cross competitions contact Snowsport GB. FIS licences should be applied for before mid August of each year for the following winter.

Please Note: FIS points vary from year to year, so there is no set level of FIS points, therefore each application will be on a case by case basis.
