| First Aid Certificate BASI has organised First Aid courses with BASP UK Ltd which are appropriate to working in a snowsport environment. All members must hold a valid First Aid certificate to maintain a valid BASI licence. The British Association of Ski Patrollers normally runs a First Aid course during the middle weekend of a two week block of courses in some of the resorts and is specifically for BASI members attending courses at that location. BASP can also arrange group bookings at a location near you. If you wish to attend please contact BASP no later than six weeks before the course is due to start. (Students may choose to free ski/board or take this first aid course). The BASP First Aid course is intended to give as much knowledge and practical experience as possible. The first morning is spent learning the principles of first aid, moving on to basic life support in an easy and logical manner. After lunch begins with an outdoor practical session reinforcing the morning's work, followed by common medical emergencies, wounds and bleeding, and shock, in the classroom; all backed up by a practical session. The second day starts with fractures, followed by the effects of heat and cold. The afternoon is then spent with lifting and handling casualties followed by various scenarios: for mountain and outdoor courses - outdoor safety procedure; for ski-based courses - FIS code and ski safety. At some point during the course a Basic Life Support skills assessment will be undertaken. The certificate is valid for 3 years. Online booking is now available through the BASP website. Please choose the course entitled, "Outdoor Emergency First Aid - 2 Days" and the appropriate location.
