Types of Membership and Benefits

The membership of BASI is made up of Associate, Full, Life and Affiliate Members. Over the many years of the Association, BASI members have established a unique bond of loyalty and commitment. 

Associate Member: £45 

This is the first level of membership and the level at which you must join when you first enter the training system.

Full Member: £65 or £60 via direct debit 

On successful completion of your first level of qualification with BASI, and on payment of the upgrade to full membership, you become a Full Member of the Association. Membership is renewable annually on 1st October either automatically by Direct Debit or online through your Member's Area.  Members can also make their annual subscription payment by cheque or by contacting the BASI Office. 

Full Member Benefits 

  • Public Liability and Professional Indemnity Insurance: The annual subscription includes cover up to five million pounds when you are working as an Instructor with a valid licence (NB: The BASI licence is only valid where the holder has refreshed, holds a current first aid certificate and a current disclosure certificate). The cover is worldwide and this policy is renewed annually. 
  • BASI Members Travel and Accident Insurance: Access to a fantastic offer for a specially designed, worldwide annual multi-trip insurance policy to cover the specific requirements of BASI Members working, instructing or teaching winter sports activities. The offer is accessible by clicking on ‘Insurance’ in your Member’s Area. Equipment & Clothing 
  • Pro Deals & Discount Offers: Hard wear equipment, soft wear, discounts and other offers are available to members with excellent reductions compared to the recommended retail price. These offers are exclusively negotiated for BASI members and are accessible through your Member's Area. BASI offers will be promoted throughout the year via BASI e-news and BASI Newsletter.

  • Ski Club of Great Britain Membership: BASI members are entitled to 50% off their first year of membership with the Ski Club when they pay their Ski Club subscription by direct debit. Ski Club members have access to over 2000 discounts, free subscription to Ski + Board Magazine, as well as full access to all areas of the ski club website www.skiclub.co.uk which includes their premium snow reports and weather.   • BASI News: Members receive regular newsletters with job opportunities, technical information and information on courses. Contributions to BASI News are welcomed and encouraged from any member, please email content to roz@basi.org.uk.
  • The BASI Logo: You have the right to wear the BASI logo on your clothing and appropriate instructor badges, guidelines are obtainable from BASI's Membership & Marketing Department. 
  • Tax Recognition: BASI appears on the list of bodies approved by HMRC for the purposes of deductions for fees and subscription paid to professional bodies or learned societies.  More information is available on the HMRC website www.hmrc.gov.ukk/list3/list3.pdf  
  • Courses: You now have an opportunity to attend a variety of courses organised through BASI. Courses are advertised in the Course Directory and on the BASI website.

Membership Annual Subscriptions  

All course participants must be current members of the Association. New Associate Members will pay the associate subscription fee at the time of booking their first course with BASI.  Other members will have their full subscription fee included at the time of booking any courses if this is not current.

Any member whose membership has lapsed for more than one year will be required to pay a rejoining fee of £35 in addition to their annual subscriptions fee.
