Refreshers, Level 1 Re-Assessment & Conversion Courses

Refreshers

Every qualified member must attend a BASI refresher or course at least once every 3 years to maintain a valid qualification.
The BASI Licence is only valid where the holder has refreshed at least 1 day every 3 years for Level 1 & 2 Qualifications. ISIA and ISTD need to refresh 1 day every year or attend a BASI course. The refresher due date requires to be shown on the licence.

Attending refreshers is a great way to meet other members, and at the same time, updating your knowledge. They also provide the ideal opportunity to take on board any new developments.

Refresher courses are held in both the UK and abroad. Fees are variable and in some cases students will need to purchase a lift pass for the venue where the course is held. Please see the relevant venue page for more information.

Level 1 Re-assessments

Any re-assessments (re-sits) must be taken within 2 years of the date of the course they have failed. If the re-assessment (re-sit) is not successfully completed within this time, then the student will be required to pay for and attend the ‘whole’ course again.

Any student who fails both the Technical and the Teaching element of any course is normally advised to retake the ‘whole’ course and this will be noted on their individual Course Report Form submitted by their Trainer. A student who fails only part of the course may be advised to attend a reassessment.

Please Note: Any student who has attended a course or re-assessment prior to 30th Sept 2010 and has not passed, will have until Dec 01st 2012 to attend a re-assessment course.

Conversions

The Refresher, Conversion and L1 Re-assessment courses can also be used by members who attended the now superseded Trainee instructor course, prior to the introduction of the Level 1 instructor course. This enables trainee instructors under the old BASI system to convert to BASI Level 1 instructors and will then allow them to instruct on artificial slopes in the UK. Once in the system, the BASI Level 1 instructors can then progress to BASI Advanced UK Instructor. Alternatively, trainee instructors can choose to book directly onto the Level 2 instructor course.

Those who wish to receive the BASI Level 1 qualification will be required to complete the procedure above and attend a 1 day refresher.
