Nordic Courses
Key Features
The British Association of Snowsport Instructors' Nordic qualification is designed to promote the highest level of technical training and education for aspiring and competent instructors.
The Nordic discipline is the dynamic and challenging sport of Cross-country skiing, performed in both Classic and Skating techniques uphill, downhill and along flat terrain on specially prepared tracks. Nordic Skiing is enjoying a huge surge in popularity, particularly in Europe, primarily due to the extensive health and fitness benefits it offers, as well as being a fantastic alternative to traditional downhill snowsports.
The training structure and proficiency standard enables members to progress from entry-level Instructor through to the highest international award, the ISIA Teacher, which is recognised worldwide. It will enable members to offer the very latest technical and teaching in Cross-country skiing on a professional level, through clubs and ski schools.
Over the course of the next 12 months BASI's Nordic qualification structure will change to include the use of roller skis as the 'artificial' means to teach and practise Cross-country skiing when snow is unavailable, optional modules such as Nordic Adaptive for disabled skiers, and new conversions and assessments for existing snow and roller ski instructors of national club associations.
